Graduation requirement: 1 unit of PE or NJROTC NJROTC 1 grades 9-12 1 unit Naval Science 1 covers the Cadet Field Manual (CFM) and introduction material. The CFM covers military drill and ceremonies, uniforms, physical fitness, orienteering, health, first aid, and survival. The NS 1 text introduces students to the precepts of citizenship, leadership and scholarship. The course covers American heritage, traditions and the role of sea power. These elements are pursued at a fundamental level. This course may be substituted for the PE requirement. NJROTC 2 grades 10-12 1 unit Prerequisite: NJROTC 1 Naval Science 2 covers Naval Sciences and Naval History. Naval Science 2 covers maritime geography, oceanography, meteorology, astronomy, physical science and aerodynamics. Naval history covers maritime history heritage and traditions, the role of sea power and sea control and how sea power influenced the growth of early western civilization, the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War I and II and naval history from the 1990’s and beyond. NJROTC 3 grades 11-12 1 unit Prerequisite: NJROTC 2 Science 3 covers Naval knowledge. This course covers the importance of sea power, the U. S. Merchant Marine, grand strategy and preparedness. U. S. strategy and naval tactics, national security, naval operations, naval communications, naval intelligence, naval logistics and navy research and development, military law, international law of the sea and law of war at sea. NJROTC 4 grade 12 1 unit Prerequisite: NJROTC 3 Naval Science 4 covers fundamental of leadership and effective communications. The course covers group dynamics, human motivation, positive leadership techniques, carrying out orders, criticism, moral responsibility, authority and the military leader and effective oral and written communication. |
