Moodle: Create an Online Assignment

In Moodle, you can create assignments that require your students to upload one or more files to your site or to compose an assignment online without having to upload any files. This is how to create an online assignment for your students:

1. Log in as usual:

2. Enter your course:

3. If necessary, enable editing:

4. Scroll down to the section of the course in which you want to add an assignment. From the activity menu (red arrow), select Online text (green arrow):

5. Give your assignment a name (red arrow) and provide directions for your students (green arrow):

6. Determine how many points the assignment will be worth (red arrow). Choose the date range in whoch students will be permitted to submit assignments (green arrows). Specify whether or not students will be permitted to submit after the due date (blue arrow).

7. Indicate whether or not you will allow students to resubmit their work (red arrow), if you wish to receive an email each time an assignment is submitted (green arrow), and if you want the ability to make camments about student submissions (blue arrow):

8. Now that you have completed setting up the assignment,  click the Save changes button:

9. Your assignment has been created and is ready for your students. You are actually finished now. But you may want to test out your assignment. To do so, return to the front page of your course:

10. Now that you are back on the front page of your course, switch to the student role:

11. Click on the link to your assignment:

12. Click on the Edit my submission button:

13. Enter your text into the Submission field and click on the Save changes button:

14. You have successfully submitted an assignment. Now click on the Return to my normal role link:

15. You are once again a teacher in your course. You have created an online assignment and have submitted an assignment as a student. You might like to grade the assignment you have submitted. If so, click on the link to the assignment:

16. Click the View assignments link:

17. Now click on the Grade link:

 18. Give the assignment a numerical grade (red arrow) and add a comment for the student (green arrow). When you are finished, click on the Save changes button (blue arrow):

 19. Now, you are finished: You created an assignment, submitted an assignment and graded an assignment. Well done. :-)
