Algebra 1 CP grades 9-10 1 unit The basic concepts and devices of algebra such as open sentences, axioms, equations, problem solving, negative numbers, inequalities, polynomials, and factoring are introduced. The role of deductive reasoning in algebra is stressed. Algebra 2 CP1 grades 11-12 1 unit Prerequisites: Completion of Math Tech 3 or Geometry Algebra 2 CP1 consists of topics found in traditional Algebra 2 courses with emphasis on solving problems found in the work place. Students will use graphing calculators. Algebra 2 CP 2 grades 10-12 1 unit Prerequisites: 77 average or better in Algebra 1 and Geometry Emphasis is first placed on review and extension of Algebra 1 concepts and skills, including a study of linear, quadratic and exponential functions. Rational algebraic expressions and complex numbers are studied. Students will be using graphing calculators. Algebra 2 Honors/Pre-IB grade 10 1 unit Prerequisites: 85 average or better in Algebra I H and Geometry H Emphasis is placed on extension of Algebra I concepts and skills, including a strong study of linear, quadratic, logarithmic and exponential functions. Rational algebraic expressions and complex numbers are studied. This course moves at a faster pace and involves the study of more complex problems than Algebra II CP. Calculus CP grade 12 1 unit Prerequisites: Precalculus This course is designed for students who plan to take advanced math classes in college. Topics include the properties and limits of functions, the derivatives and its applications, the integral and its applications and transcendental functions. AP Calculus AB/ IB Math SL2 grade 12 1 unit Prerequisite: Eligibility for AP coursework The AP Calculus AB course is a college level calculus course. Topics include properties and limits of elementary functions, theory of the derivative and its application, techniques of integration, and applications of the integral. The outline topics issued by the College Board are closely followed. Each student is required to take the AP Exam. AP Calculus BC/ IB Math HL 2 grade 12 1 unit Prerequisite: Eligibility for AP coursework The AP Calculus BC course is a college level calculus course. It includes all topics of AP Calculus AB and several additional topics, including sequences and series and parametric equations. The outline topics issued by the College Board are closely followed. Each student is required to take the AP Exam. Geometry CP grade 9-11 1 unit Prerequisite: 77 average or better in Algebra 1 CP or 75 or better in Algebra 1 H This course uses deductive reasoning involving the application of definitions, postulates and theorems to solve problems and write proofs. Powers of spatial visualization and knowledge of the relationships among geometric elements are developed through classic compass construction techniques as well as through sketching and problem solving in coordinate geometry, areas and volumes, and ratio and proportion. Geometry Honors/Pre-IB grade 9 1 unit Prerequisites: 85 average or better in Algebra 1 H and teacher recommendation Emphasis is placed on an understanding of the basic structure of geometry while developing powers of spatial visualization and knowledge of the relationships among geometric elements. Emphasis is placed on deductive reasoning, using definitions, postulates and theorems. This course includes coordinate geometry, areas and volumes, constructions and ratios and proportion with emphasis on proofs and problem solving. This course moves at a faster pace and involves the study of more complex problems than Geometry CP. Math for Tech 2 grade 10 1 unit Prerequisite: Algebra 1 Math for Tech 2 consists of materials found in the second half of a traditional Algebra 1 course with emphasis on solving problems from the world of work. Students will use the scientific calculator and the graphing calculator. Math for Tech 3 grade 11 1 unit Prerequisite: Math for Tech 2 or Algebra 1 Math for Tech 3 consists of applications of skills and concepts from algebra, trigonometry, and plane and coordinate geometry, including the use of transformations, and the application of logic to solve problems found in the work place. Students will be using TI-83 PLUS calculators. Math for Tech 4 grade 12 1 unit Prerequisite: Must have earned 3 math units Math for Tech 4 consists of applications of skills and concepts from probability, statistics and data analysis. Students will need a TI30xIIS or TI-83 PLUS calculator. IB Math Methods/SL1/HL1 grade 11 1 unit Prerequisites: C average or better in Algebra 2 PIB and Geometry PIB This course includes a strong study of functions, trigonometry, exponents, logarithms, complex numbers, conic sections, sequences and mathematics. Year two includes the study of geometry, trigonometry, functions and calculus. Students will use graphing calculators. Pre-Calculus CP grades 11-12 1 unit Prerequisite: 77 average or better in Algebra 2 CP2 or Algebra 2 H This is an introductory course in advanced mathematics. It includes conic sections, functions, exponents, logarithms and complex numbers and a strong study of trigonometry. Students will use graphing calculators Probability/Statistics grade 11-12 1 unit Prerequisite: Algebra 2 This course introduces students to both descriptive and inferential statistics. Activities engage students in collecting, organizing, displaying and interpreting real data. Students will use TI-83 or TI-84 calculators. AP Statistics grade 11-12 1 unit Prerequisite: Algebra 2 AP Statistics acquaints students with the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing and drawing conclusions from data. Students will work on projects involving the hands-on gathering and analysis of real world data. This course prepares students for the Advanced Placement examination in Statistics. A TI-83 or TI-84 calculator is required. IB Statistics/Math Topics SL/HL 2B grade 12 ½ unit Prerequisite: AP Calculus BC taken concurrently This course covers the probability, statistics and vector geometry components of the curriculum for IB Math Methods/HL. Topics also include proof by induction. |
