ARTArt 1 grades 9-12 1 unitStudents will learn to draw and paint, the elements and principles of design, basic printmaking techniques and are introduced to Art History. Students will develop a basic art vocabulary and learn how to critique works of art. Art 2 grades 10-12 1 unit Prerequisites: Art I and teacher approval Students will be introduced to ceramics and graphic design. Art 2 students will also further develop skills in painting and art criticism. Art 3 grades 11-12 1 unit Prerequisite: Art 2 and teacher approval This course is designed for the serious art student. Painting, printmaking and 3-D design are studied. Students will be required to enter various art competitions. Art history and a high level of art criticism will be integrated throughout the course. Art 4 grade 12 1 unit Prerequisite: Art 3 and teacher approval This course is designed for the serious art student who wishes independent study in a chosen art area as well as computer graphics and 35-mm photography. The Art IV student will enter various art competitions. Graphic Design grades 10-12 ½ unit Prerequisite: Students must pass Art 1 with a C or better This course is an introduction to the basics of effective design layouts using text and graphical elements. Students will experience a variety of media including hands on projects and an introduction to Adobe Photoshop. IB Visual Art grade 12 1 unit This course is for the serious art students who will not be confined to specific forms of expression. The emphasis in this course will be towards building a strong portfolio of work as well as keeping a daily research journal charting artistic growth. Photography grades 10-12 ½ unit Prerequisites: Students must pass Art 1 with a C or better and have a camera This course is an introduction to the basics of black and white photography. The class will include art history, aesthetics as well as creative expression. Students will learn how to develop and enlarge prints using both pinhole and 35 mm cameras. Students must pay a ten dollar materials fee which is an additional cost above the regular school fees. MUSICGuitar 1 grades 9-12 1 unitThis class will teach students with little or no experience how to play the guitar. Guitars and books are furnished to the class. Students will learn to play melody and chords on the guitar. Band 1 (Concert Band) grades 9-12 1 unit Prerequisites: Recommendation of the middle school band director and audition at the high school Concert Band offers the student an opportunity to further develop skills in playing a band instrument. This includes all levels of instruction from intermediate to advanced. Skills taught include proper tone production, music reading and usable techniques to advance the student’s musical proficiency. A minimum of two public concert performances is required. Band 4 (Wind Ensemble) grades 9-12 1 unit Prerequisites: Recommendation of the middle school band director and audition at the high school The Wind Ensemble is a select group and admission is gained by audition. Students must maintain a high level of performance to stay in this class. Admission is on a yearly audition basis. Students are given the opportunity to perform music at a very advanced level. Some additional after school rehearsal is required. A minimum of four public concert performances is required. Chorus 1,2 grades 9-12 ½ unit The class will include the basic elements of music theory and vocal production. Students are not expected to have any prior knowledge of music in order to participate in this class. A wide range of choral music will be covered. Chorus Rehearsal grades 9-12 1 unit Prerequisite: Audition This course is designed for students who have demonstrated vocal ability and general music knowledge. This group will perform music from diverse styles and periods in history. Music Appreciation grades 9-12 1 unit This class is structured around the history of music. The class will discuss the elements that make up music and study early music, baroque music classicism in music, romanticism in music, American popular music and music from around the world. Jazz, rock, rap and pop music will also be studied. |
