BUSINESS
 

Accounting 1       grades 10-12       1 unit
The primary thrust of Accounting 1 is to learn the rules and procedures of accounting for profit-motivated businesses.  Learning the how and why of accounting will not only enable one to keep accurate financial records, but will give one the capacity to use that financial information to make wise business decisions.

Accounting 2         grades 11-12      1 unit
Prerequisites: Accounting 1 with a C average or better and/or teacher recommendation
Accounting II with Computer Applications is a program that addresses the needs of students who want a strong foundation in basic accounting theory and procedures, but also want to know about computerized accounting systems.

Business and Personal Finance  grades 9-12        ½ unit
This course is designed to introduce the student to the basic elements of finance: budgeting, obtaining credit, maintaining checking accounts, computing payroll, recording business transactions and applying computer operations to financial management.  

Business Law       grades 11-12        ½ unit
Business Law is designed to introduce the student to the subject of legal rights and responsibilities as they apply to business as well as to an individual’s responsibilities as a citizen.  The course includes information about contracts, employment, sales, insurance, property, wills, banking, credit transactions, criminal and civil procedures

Computer Applications  grades  9-12      1 unit
Computer Applications is designed to present an overview of computer concepts and allow the student to practice on computer software from tutorials to software instruction manuals.  This course discusses computer basics, word processing applications, graphing applications, integrated software applications, desktop publishing, telecommunications, database applications and spreadsheets. **This course satisfies computer science graduation requirement**

Integrated Business App 1 grades 9-12   1 unit
This course is designed to teach the student how to process data into useful information by using a database spreadsheet, word processing and graphics applications software.  Other content areas include component sizes, and limitations of computer systems, system software and information needs of business, industry and government. **This course satisfies computer science graduation requirement** 

Integrated Business App 2   grades 10-12    1 unit
Prerequisites: Integrated Business App 1
This course is designed to teach advanced computer concepts as related to processing data into useful information needed in business situations by using advanced database, spreadsheet, work processing, and presentation software capabilities.  Because the design of this course is to prepare students for Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) Certification, the emphasis is on speed, accuracy, and production using proper keyboarding techniques.

Virtual Enterprise 1 & 2  grades 10-12   1 unit
Prerequisites: Computer Applications or Integrated Business Applications (or have documented equivalent skills) and must be able to use integrated applications software such as the MSOffice Suite or the Corel Suite.
Virtual Enterprise is part of a national curriculum called Virtual Enterprises International and the South Carolina Virtual Enterprises Network that allows students to experience within a simulated business environment all facets of being an employee in a firm. The program allows students to run simulated offices in their schools and engage in virtual trading with other practice firms.

 

MARKETING
 

Marketing I          grades 9-12        1 unit
This course introduces marketing concepts, examines the economic marketing and business and human resources foundations of marketing and gives an overview of the marketing functions of selling, promotion, distribution, risk management, pricing, purchasing, marketing information management, product/service planning and financing.

Advertising (Marketing 2)  grades 10- 12     1 unit
Prerequisite: Marketing I
This course continues the analysis of the marketing functions by examining human resource foundations marketing and business fundamentals, distribution, promotion and selling as applied in merchandising.


Sports and Entertainment Marketing   grades 11-12        1 unit
Prerequisite: Marketing I
This course examines the marketing of sports and sports entertainment as well as the world of entertainment marketing.  Students learn about the big ideas and big business involved in marketing some of the world’s greatest names in sports and entertainment.
